Before there was Dwelling Point Church, there was Occupy.

Occupy didn’t start as a church plant. It started as a move of God on a college campus—one that would eventually spark a vision so big it would stretch across states, cities, and generations.

This is the story of how Occupy began, how it grew, and how it ultimately gave birth to Dwelling Point Church.

It All Started in 2016 at Missouri State University

In 2016, a small group of students gathered on the campus of Missouri State University not to start a ministry—but to seek God.

What began as a simple Bible study quickly turned into something no one could have orchestrated. Students from all backgrounds began showing up. Hearts were being changed. Lives were being surrendered. Classrooms became altars. And the Holy Spirit made it clear: this wasn’t just a moment—it was a movement.

The name Occupy came from Luke 19:13 — “Occupy until I come.”
We believed (and still believe) that we are called to occupy every space—every campus, city, industry, and culture—until Jesus returns. Not with religion, but with revival.

From Revival on Campus to Discipleship in Community

Occupy quickly became more than a weekly gathering. It became a family. A discipleship culture. A place where young leaders were raised up, souls were saved, and students were equipped to bring Kingdom impact in their everyday lives.

We saw students become ministers, creatives become missionaries, and prayer warriors raised up from the most unlikely places.

It didn’t take long before people started asking the question:
“What happens after we graduate?”

The answer: We keep building. We plant more. And eventually, we plant churches.

When the Assignment Shifted: From Missouri to Texas

After years of faithfully leading Occupy at Missouri State, the Lord began to stir something new. A calling to expand. A burden for college campuses across Texas. A sense that God was sending us to new territory—not to replace what had been built, but to reproduce it on a larger scale.

In 2021, a team relocated to Austin, Texas with the same heartbeat that started Occupy: to reach students, raise up leaders, and host the presence of God.

Occupy quickly took root again—this time on campuses like the University of Texas and Texas State University. What God had done in Missouri, He was now doing in Texas.
And in the process, He was laying the groundwork for something even bigger.

The Birth of Dwelling Point Church

As the movement continued to grow, God began to make it clear:
It’s time to plant a church.

Not just a ministry for students—but a spiritual home for every generation.
A church that would be built on the same DNA as Occupy: radical love for Jesus, deep hunger for His presence, bold evangelism, and unshakable discipleship.

And so, Dwelling Point Church was born.

Occupy didn’t go away—it expanded. Now, it’s the college and young adult expression of the broader vision of Dwelling Point Church. And just like in the beginning, it continues to be a place where fire falls, lives are changed, and students are sent.

One Vision, Two Expressions

  • Occupy reaches the campus, disciples students, and multiplies leaders.

  • Dwelling Point Church builds the house, hosts His presence, and impacts families and cities.

Together, they are one movement—united under the banner of purpose, presence, and power.
